7 Reasons Why We Love Artotel Bali

When we heard that ARTOTEL is coming to Bali, let alone Sanur, we are very excited. Partly confused, because we are wondering how the hip and artsy concept that comes with Artotel could match the area of Sanur, which are famous for being laid back and quiet(er) than the rest of the tourist destination in Bali. But, as the hotel was opened last 2015, we are very happy to see how well it goes with the neighbourhood. It even elevate Sanur’s image as the new artistic corner in Bali. Well, we got a chance to stay in the hotel last March and this is what we love about it.

1. We Love It’s Cerita
Cerita means story in English. And this book does exactly just that. When you enter the room, you’ll find a small book in the work desk. We’ve seen lots of hotel background page or their story, but we haven’t seen something like this. First, it shares the story of Sanur – the old and the new. This is very insightful, especially if you are visiting the area for the first time. It doesn’t just tell you the do’s and dont’s but tells you why things are what they are. They highlighted the culture, the local people and how we can make the best of our days strolling in Sanur. They also tells you the story behind the making of Artotel Sanur – and the artists they work with. This is so much fun to see (it’s available in their TV), but also interesting to read. Why do they get the inspiration and why it suited Sanur? You can read it all in the Cerita book. PS: you can also bring the book home with you so you can share the stories with your loved ones.

2. We Love It’s Kites
Refering to a word play of ART and HOTEL, which is a collection of Art inspired design hotels. Just like ART where it is never the same, every ARTOTEL is customized and designed individually based on its location and environment. This particular Artotel uses something very dear to Sanur as inspiration to its design: Kite. From the facade to the partition wall, they made 4600 wooden kites to differentiate the hotel from its sisters properties. Sanur is famous for its kites festival, so these wooden kites are made to celebrate that. They clean each kites individually every 12 hours to ensure its cleanlines.

3. We Love It’s Art
When you’re in Sanur, you can drop by Artotel anytime to check out the arts that’s available everywhere. When you enter the lobby, you will be greeted by two beautiful metal and steel sculptures made by Pintor Sirait. Then, you will find their ARTSPACE that functions as a contemporary gallery to display original works and installations by contemporary artists. Every month or so, they will open their space for young emerging artists in Bali to showcase their works. Not only will they help the artists to gain recognition from the public eye, but also proves ARTOTEL commitment to support and promote the Indonesian Contemporary Art to the world. Oh, don’t forget to ask if they have special art classes for guests. This will surely make your day.

4. We Love It’s Room
There are three types of room at the Artotel Sanur: Studio 30, Studio 40 and Studio 55. Each room has the original artwork by one of the four artists – Valasara, Natisa Jones, Kemalezedine, and Ines Katamso. The artworks are impressive, the first thing that will catch your eyes upon entering the room. But it is the subtle things that we love about the room. Like their earthy color palates, with concrete walls, brown textured fabric, their black walls that really compliments the artwork. Al the furniture are contemporary looking with clean lines and edges, making it really nice and chic. We especially love the big TV -49 inch- in the room. Because, as we hate to admit it, with a bed so comfortable, we just wanna lay down and watch TV.

5. We Love It’s Rooftop Bars & Pool
Artotel Sanur is not located by the beach. However, they make use of their beautiful local surroundings and put their pool on the rooftop. We can see the beach from here. Since Sanur is the only spot in Bali where you can see the sunrise and sunset, the rooftop is especially beautiful during those times. A series of timber sundecks are set up for the pleasure of in-house guests with daybeds and umbrellas: the perfect set to go and chat with a fellow traveller. After the swim, you can relax with a glass of cocktail at BART while their in-house DJ play some cool tunes. They have various promotion, like free cocktails for the first 20 women in bikinis, sunday breeze, and many more.

6. We Love It’s Breakfast
Celebrating the ART of eating well, ROCA is design-driven restaurant that spills out onto a wooden terrace at the front of the hotel. ROCA opens for 24 hour every day, but it is their breakfast that steal the show. The breakfast for public start from 7am until 10.30 am everyday with variative menu from east to west. but it is their Indonesian food that we love. Spotted around the corner with many traditional stall for you to choose in the morning such as Soto Lamongan, Soto Bandung, Lontong Sayur, Seafood steamboat and many more. You can even order your eggs with extra sambal for that Indonesian kick. Their breakfast is only with 75k net/ person (for outside guest).

7. We Love It’s Staff
The heart of a hotel is their staff and the staff at Artotel Sanur welcomes you like part of their family. Starting from the parking staff, the restaurant staff till the cleaning staff… all are super friendly. Everybody looks so nice and chic with the uniform specially designed in collaboration with local designer, Paulina Katarina. They surely make our stay memorable.
