8 Kartini Day Celebrations in Bali

Every 21st of April, Indonesian celebrate Kartini Day. This can be considered a women emancipation day, because Kartini is one of Indonesia’s National Hero that pushes the boundaries for women to stand up for their rights to get education and to speak up. Since this day will be on a Friday, people are just in the mood for a little celebration. Expect to see women wearing Kebaya, because this is our way of saying: we can wear our traditional outfits and still have kick ass! Here’s some event worth attending on that day:

Where: Kuta Beach
When: April 20th 2017
One of the most unique event that we can witness is the Kebaya Surf Culture that will be held on the 20th of April. Piping, the CEO of Magic Wave, wanted to encourage women to try surfing. There are only 10 female surf athletes in Indonesia, professionally. So with this festival, they want to show that surfing can be fun for women. On that day, the female surf athelete will participate, and they will surf the Kuta beach while wearing a kebaya. This will also serves as a tribute to all the women in Indonesia.

Uma Cucina is excited to host three of the island’s top chefs, Chef Dewa Artana of Uma Cucina, Head Chef Kieran Morland of Merah Putih and Sangsaka, Executive Chef Ben Cross of Mejekawi, for a dynamic evening of dining. The night will start
with cocktails and a selection of canapés created by the chefs. A six-course tasting menu will follow. The dinner, with live music, is priced at IDR 750,000 per person (subject to a 21 per cent government tax and service charge).
