12 Bali Festivals in 2017 You Don’t Want to Miss


When: 10 June – 8 July 2017


The Bali Arts Festival is a full month of daily performances, handicraft exhibitions and other related cultural and commercial activities during which literally the whole of Bali comes to the city to present its offerings of dance, music and beauty. On display are trances from remote mountain slopes, forgotten or recently revived village dances, food and offering contests, classical palace dances, stars of Balinese stage, odd musical performances, “kreasi baru” (new creations) from the dance schools of Denpasar, as well as contemporary choreography and dance companies from other islands and from abroad.

 It is a month long revelry that perhaps no other place in the world can put up on such a low budget as the Balinese. The Bali Arts Festival will held its opening ceremony at Niti Mandala Renon Square and continue its month-long events at the Denpasar Art Center. The festival is thus a unique opportunity to see local village culture both “live” and at first hand. Tourists are warmly welcomed.


When: 11-12 August 2017


Ubud Village Jazz Festival is a music festival situated in the artistic surroundings of Ubud Bali, Indonesia. This August the event will be held at Arma Ubud. The idea is to have a community concert that is small but filled with people who truly enjoy jazz. UVJF also facilitates a workshop of local and National music educators to investigate ways of getting more young people interested in playing Jazz. This year’s lineups are yet to be announced. Jazz Market by The Sea is an annual community based event that showcases talents of Indonesia through music, art, education and social activities. Jazz Market is a festival like no other as it thrives to enrich the audience through social interaction and engaging activities. This is a platform for musical expression to promote musical awareness and acts as a catalyst to develop the regeneration of Indonesian musicians. Attracting not just music fans, the festival includes vibrant market stalls showcasing local arts & crafts, a wide range of mouth watering food stalls, and other many other festivities. Jazz Market is always a festival for everyone. Music, culture, culinary, and engaging activities for you, and your kids are just some of the treats you’ll catch in the Jazz Market.

This year, Sanur Village Festival will host its 12th year. This event is an independent tourism promotion effort that preserves and improves Sanur community ecology, economy, social cultural and creativity. Every year, Sanur will host 5-days of fun with great food bazaar filled with Sanur’s finest cuisine selection, amazing activities and cool performances. The first festival held back in 2006, which was a respond to the slowing of tourism post second Bali bombing (2005), still struggling from the first incident back in 2002. Afterwards the festival set themes in line with real development issues during the 9 years.

Sanur Village Festival among them will have cleaning the beach, reforestation, baby turtle release, surfing competition, fun run, jukung competition, food festival, fruit and ice carving, cultural parade, international kite festival, fishing tournament, body painting, photo competition, golf tournament, and musical performances. Bali International Film Festival, also known and registered as BALINALE, invites international filmmakers to present their work to a discerning audience that’s a wonderful mix of locals and expatriates from across the globe. ‘Connecting Communities Through the World of Film’ will be the festival focus throughout 2017 acknowledging that film has the power to translate and communicate messages, transporting people to places, and induce visits to foreign lands enabling greater tolerance and acceptance of countries and cultures. BALINALE is known for its specialized knowledge and importance in promoting Indonesian cinema acting as a platform and history of supporting established and aspiring local filmmakers with workshops and seminars as an important part of the program along with international filmmakers who continue each year to help us achieve our goals of bringing together a gathering of global creativity. The event will be held at Cinemaxx Kuta.

The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is Southeast Asia’s leading festival of words and ideas. The Festival celebrates extraordinary stories, amplifies brave voices, and tackles global issues through the lens of literature and the arts. The Festival brings together a diverse mix of Indonesian and international writers, speakers, thinkers, artists, advocates, commentators and activists, to create a space for intercultural exchange and connection. We are proud of our continuing success in uniting global voices, and bringing Indonesian literature to the world. The 14th UWRF will be held 25–29 October, 2017, with the theme announced in February 2017.

Nusa Dua Fiesta 2017 is a Bali Annual Festival Of Arts And Culture In Nusa Dua. Nusa Dua Fiesta 2017 brings back the fun and colorful week of arts exhibitions, cultural performances and sporting events to its namesake luxury beach resort area on Bali’s southeast coast. First held in 1996 as Nusa Dua Festival and becoming a fiesta in its ninth year, it welcomes the general public to this otherwise exclusive tourism enclave, with different shows and events held in various venues throughout Nusa Dua. This year’s Nusa Dua Fiesta kicks off on Wednesday, November 15 with an evening opening ceremony at Nusa Dua’s landmark peninsular area. Earlier in the morning you can admire various handicrafts on display here, as well as unique bonsais and an antique automobile show. In the afternoon, the streets come alive with parades featuring vivid floats from all of the five-star resorts in Nusa Dua’s ITDC complex.
