Complete Guide to Holiday with Kids in Bali

Travelling to a foreign city or country is not holiday when you’re travelling with kids. Not only do you have to pack everything properly (yes, everything), but you have to know your battlefield. Where are you go going? Who should you call in case of emergencies? What shots do they need before coming to Bali? Where should you stay? What activities will the kids love? Where’s the best kids club? Well, we have the complete guide for you…

There are long list of problems and health issues that can turn your holiday into a nightmare. Thank God for vaccines, because vaccines are an easy way to make travel with children safer and less worrisome. There are two types of vaccines; routine vaccines and the reccommended vaccines.
Routine Vaccines
Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot.
Reccommended Vaccines
When visiting in Bali, or Indonesia in general, these are the reccommended vaccines you can take as noted by CDC. However, please take into consideration on the age of your kids and the period of time to give the vaccines. Here are some of them:
1. Hepatitis A
We recommends this vaccine because you can get hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Indonesia, regardless of where you are eating or staying. Treatment to be started one week before arriving.
Note: This vaccine should not be given to children younger than 1 year.
2. Typhoid
You can get typhoid through contaminated food or water in Indonesia. We recommends this vaccine for most travelers, especially if you are staying with friends or relatives, visiting smaller cities or rural areas, or if you are an adventurous eater.
Note: Injectable typhoid vaccine can be given to children 2 years old or older. Oral typhoid vaccine can be given to children 6 years old or older.
3. Hepatitis B
You can get hepatitis B through sexual contact, contaminated needles, and blood products, so we recommends this vaccine if you might have sex with a new partner, get a tattoo or piercing, or have any medical procedures. Treatment to be started four weeks before arriving.
4. Japanese Encephalitis
You may need this vaccine if your trip will last more than a month, depending on where you are going in Indonesia and what time of year you are traveling. You should also consider this vaccine if you plan to visit rural areas in Indonesia or will be spending a lot of time outdoors, even for trips shorter than a month. Your doctor can help you decide if this vaccine is right for you based on your travel plans. Treatment to be started four weeks before arriving.
5. Malaria
When traveling in Indonesia, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent malaria. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria, depending on your travel plans, such as where you are going, when you are traveling, and if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or sleeping outside. Talk to your doctor about how you can prevent malaria while traveling. For more information on malaria in Indonesia, see malaria in Indonesia.
Note: Ask your doctor what the best medicines to prevent malaria in children are.
6. Rabies
Rabies can be found in dogs, bats, and other mammals in Indonesia, so if you’re doing activities that put you and your kids at risk for animal bites in your holiday ittenerary this shot is reccommended. This is especially important when you’re with children, because they tend to play with animals, might not report bites, and are more likely to have animal bites on their head and neck.
7. Yellow Fever
There is no risk of yellow fever in Indonesia. The government of Indonesia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. This does not include the US. If you are traveling from a country other than the US, check this list to see if you may be required to get the yellow fever vaccine: Countries with risk of yellow fever virus (YFV) transmission. Treatment to be started 10 days before arriving.
Note: This vaccine should not be given to children younger than 6 months and only with caution to children aged 6–8 months.
