Good day from Bali!

A couple of 4.7 richter scale earthquakes shook Bali earlier today, at 10.44 AM and 12:15 PM Bali time with the epicentrum suspected to be around 42 km off Southeast Klungkung, with a depth of 109 km. The vibration was felt in Klungkung, Bangli, Gianyar, Denpasar,Badung and Tabanan, for up to 10 seconds. No injuries or physical damages have been reported thus far.

According to the Australia Bureau of Statistics, Bali is increasingly becoming Australian’s choice of holiday destination, with 105,500 Australian tourists coming to the island every month, surpassing New Zealand as the most popular destination for the country. Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya stated that this has a lot to do with Indonesia’s visa deregulation policy applied last year and also the multiple ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ promotional campaigns in the country.

Although it is business as usual for Hindu-majority Bali, this week we enter the holy month of Ramadhan, where Muslims around the world undergo a month-long self-reflection and self-control, by abstaining abstain from any consumption of food, drink and other worldly pleasure from sunrise until sunset. We would like to wish all our Muslim readers a peaceful and blessed Ramadan; and as this month is also the start of school holiday for many, we wish you and your family a great summer holiday as well!
