Nine Indonesians including three children age three, six and nine, died after a bridge in Bali collapsed on Sunday (Oct 16), said the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). According to the agency, the suspension bridge, which links Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan snapped at about 6.30pm Bali time. The sea beneath the bridge was less than 2m deep, Mr Wahyudi said, but many of the victims were crushed by debris, The Straits Times reports.
Citilink, the low-cost arm of national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, is set to open two international routes from Hang Nadim Airport in Batam, Riau Islands, in 2017. The airline planned to fly to China and Korea every Monday and Thursday, respectively, using an Airbus 320 that could accommodate 180 passengers, in a bid to support tourism in the region, The Jakarta Postreports. The airport currently only serves one international flight from Lion Air’s Malaysian subsidiary, Malindo Air, which flies to Malaysia once per day.
