There have been a few spa openings these last few months of 2017, and we’re loving it. The last one we tried is the new Arkipela Spa at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali. Here’s what we love about it.
When Movenpick first open its door early this year in Jimbaran, they introduced themselves as Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali. So far, we are loving their rooms, their pool, their restaurants and cafe. However, we are still curious about the Spa part. Last October, they finally announced that Arkipela Spa is open for public. Arkipela is taken from the word archipelago, which means that they will celebrate the best of what Indonesia has to offer. We can’t wait to try it out.
There are two ways to enter the Arkipela Spa: from the stairs next to Movenpick Cafe (if you enter from Samasta) or right from the hotel. The white marble stairs will lead you to a very serene and grand spa reception. The spa is designed by Hadi Prana, the Indonesian design studio that is famous for its simple and unique decor. The whole spa reception is dominated in white, brown and gold making it an elegant and blissful sanctuary of wellness.
As we enter the spa, the friendly receptionist will explain you the treatments and the ingredients they use. Guided by a more holistic way of life, Arkipela Spa draws on age-old herbal medicine recipes passed down from generation to generation to create hand-crafted remedies from local fruits, herbs, and roots in our apothecary blend bar. There are four main oils that guest can choose from. But what we love is the rows of natural ingredients, from galangal oil, aloe vera cream, coconut milk powder and so much more, that the therapist will mix at the blend bar to use for your treatments later. We chose the coconut oil for our massage, and we are so excited to try it.
Arkipela Spa features nine tranquil treatment rooms, a sauna and a selection of shiatsu massage rooms. The double room has a bathtub, bathroom and is very spacious. What we notice about the room is how comfortable the spa bed is. Even the cloth that they use to cover the body is silky and so smooth against our skin. This is pretty special because it felt so relaxing. So good job Arkipela!
The treatment we got is the Arkipela Signature Journey. The treatment comes with a cleansing Foot Ritual, followed by Arkipela’s Signature Massage. The therapist explains that this will be a flowing technique unlike no other. It is designed exclusively for Arkipela. The treatment combines Balinese, Lomi-Lomi, Swedish, Acupressure, and yoga-inspired movements, to restore balance and leave us feeling light and revitalized. We tried a lot of spas and believe us: this is definitely one technique you need to try. Her hand will be on your thigh, and then move elegantly to the shoulder and all over. It never leaves your body. This technique allows the therapist to reach parts that other massage couldn’t reach. Whoever invented this technique is a genius and we applaud them!
We finish the treatment with a warm ginger tea at their beautiful relaxation room. And since we’re feeling relaxed already, we decided to indulge in hot dark cocoa at the Movenpick Cafe. Check out this link to see their Spa Menu and book your treatment soon!
