Review: Art Cafe Sanur

If you are familiar with Sanur area, then most likely you’ve been to or heard of Art Cafe Sanur. They are not a new player in Sanur, in fact they have been here since 2011. However, last April, we are invited to the re-opening of Art Cafe and we are very happy with the new changes. It feels familiar, yet there’s a new vibe that makes it cool and current. This is especially important since Sanur’s development is pretty fast and there’s always something new. Here’s whats new at the Art Cafe Sanur.

As we enter the Art Cafe Sanur you can feel how open the space is. The renovation moved up the bar up front and center while the dining area got a facelift. The design is done by Hatiku Indonesia, a great design company that always highlights Indonesian elements. We can see this from the use of Indonesian textiles and print in their pillows and chairs, the beautiful wooden table and chairs and many more. We also love the big murals of Balinese Barong made by the local artist. The Balinese sees Barong as a symbol of health and good fortune. It’s gorgeous and make the perfect picture backdrop to your pictures. The whole cafe looks really chic with earthy tones combined with striking colours here and there.

Staying true to their name: Art Cafe, this place is so much more than just a restaurant. When you enter the restroom, you can see beautiful photo displays. Outside, they have a dedicated walls that will be used to display artworks from local artists. Their long term commitment is to work with local artists and help them display and sell their art so that the community or the tourist visiting can get access to these works. Don’t hesitate to ask if you see something you like and want to take home.

Another great changes happens in the kitchen and on the menu. For the appetizer you can try their delicious Homemade Tomato & Basil Soup or Asparagus Wrapped in Bacon. Their Citrus Salad is so fresh and will light up your appetite. For the main course, they have hearty food that’s just so delicious, like their Crusted Rack of Lamb, Duck Leg Confit or Snapper Rolled in Bacon. For dessert, try their Orange Torte or the special Art Cafe “Melt in the Middle” Warm Chocolate Lava Cake that’s always freshly baked.

Go to the bar and ask for their special cocktails. Their happy hour starts from 4-7PM everyday, and this May you can buy 2 of the same cocktail and 3rd is FREE! Oh, and dont forget to try their Death By Chocolate cocktail… it’s to die for.
