Review: Luigi’s Hot Pizza

I don’t think I have heard of a place that sells only two things on their menu: Salad or Pizza. When they told me that Luigi’s Hot Pizza is going to simpler than Da Maria, I didn’t expect it to be this simple. But, I kinda like it. If you love the Pizza at Da Maria, then you’ll like the ones they have at Luigi’s Hot Pizza. This Canggu’s latest hotspot offers no-fuss chill out joint that you couldn’t help but love.

Da Maria and Luigi’s Hot Pizza came from the same brilliant business men: Maurice Terzini and Adrian Reed. However, each restaurant absorb the lifestyle of their neighbouring areas. Da Maria is all fancy and parties, perfect for Seminyak. Meanwhile, Luigi’s Hot Pizza is open air, chillax and affordable, which makes it the ideal Canggu’s hangout spot.

After a long day surfing, all people want is great food and kick-ass cocktail. Here at Luigi’s you don’t even have to think hard in deciding what food you want. There’s only two options: Salad or Pizza. IDR 100.000 is the most expensive thing on the menu. Everything is just very affordable. They even kept it low maintenance by serving the food in pizza boxes and paper cups featuring distinct hand-crafted graphics. It’s just easy breezy yummy!

Why Luigi’s? If you tried the pizza at Da Maria, you might be familiar with their Pizzaiolo, or the pizza maker that came from a family of pizza maker. Well, at Da Maria, they have two pizzaiolo and called them: the Marios. They send one Pizzaiolo to the new restaurant and decide to call them Luigi, as in the Mario Brothers. Well, that’s just our theory. But the real reason why you would fall in love with their pizza is how they are made by the original pizzaiolo; the pizza dough is naturally risen for 24 hours and they use custom-made pizza oven, direct from Naples, ensures quality Neapolitan style pizzas.

There are 10 pizza flavours available. Our favourite is P7 – with Marinara, garlic, tomato sauce, oregano and extra virgin oil. So simple and soooo tasty. We also try P2 – wood roasted chicken with peperonata, fior di latte. They got cheese, stuffed pizza, vegetarian, you name it. All came in a pizza box, so you can just grab and eat it with your hand. But if you need plates, they will provide it.

For something extra, their Salads are super creative and yummy. There are six options. We love S1 which is basically watermelon (loads of them) with feta, mint, basil, chili, and candied walnuts. They have the Caesar Salad. But our favourite is the S3 – Roasted Pumpkin, fior di latter, pine nuts and rocket. A great way to fill up before the pizza.

Situated in the heart of Canggu junction, the bar at Luigi’s Hot Pizza’s will feature some low-fi interpretations of the classics as well as Terzini’s numbered drink program adapted for the tropical Bali climate. The bar will be pouring the No.8 with DM Bitter Apperitivo, Vodka and Grapefruit, No.147 with Vodka, Coconut, Pineapple, Passionfruit, Lime and Falernum and the Mediterranean Gin and Tonic with Gin, Limoncello, house tonic syrup and soda amongst.

We tried it, and we love it. Come and give Luigi’s a try. They open everyday from 5PM till late.
