Review: The TAO Bali

Benoa is famous as the land of cool water sports. Tourists are flocking to the area for it. However, for us, one great reason to visit Benoa is to go to The Tao Bali and experience authentic Thai cuisine. We can’t get enough of it!

Drive all the way to the end of Tanjung Benoa, right across Ramada Resort Benoa Bali, you will find TAO. The place has a beautiful old charm to it, thanks to its open space, big garden in the front and all wooden furniture. If you want to eat here, you can find spacious parking at the Ramada Resort. TAO also has a beach front location, making it the perfect place for you and your family to relax after fun day in the sun. They also have a big pool lagoon for a quick dip or simply to cool off. It has all the convenience of a beach club, with all the amazing quality that a restaurant has.

We came there for lunch on a beautiful sunny day, and we are immediately blown away by the whole ambiance. When we walked in, the whole garden looks so serene and green. It opens our path to a big open restaurant dominated by warm wooden colors. There’s a big letters that says TAO in the ceiling that catches our attention. Meanwhile in the back, the beach is calling our name with its vibrancy. We can see the waves breaking, the jet skis playing and the children swimming, and can’t help but smile. It’s such a great ambiance to eat and enjoy food.

TAO Bali is famous for its Thai Cuisine, but it also have other options from Southeast Asia, such as Vietnamese food, Malaysian food, Chinese food and Indonesian food. When we open the menu, we notice that they listed the herbs that they uses in their dish, like Galangal; Basil; Lemongrass; Kaffir Lime Leaves; Lime; Garlic; Chilli and Glass Noodle. These herbs are typical in Southeast Asian dishes, and shows us that they do offers authentic cuisine. Characteristics of Asian food depend on who cooks it for whom it is cooked, for that occasion and where it is cooked. Dishes can be refined and adjusted to suit all palates. That is why at TAO bali, the food is for sharing. They also have several packages for a minimum order of two, with food selections that makes us drool. They have the Orient menu that has 13 items on the menu; The Silk menu has 11 items; while the Vegetarian menu has 10.

If you just want to choose and pick your favourite menu, just choose among the various food in the ala carte menu. We tried the Tao Appetizer Sampler/IDR 105.000 so we can try the best ones in one platter. The sampler includes Prawn Cake, Chicken Pandan, Hoi Jor, Chicken Satay and fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. We also try the Flying Mango Salad/IDR 75.000, cos you just have to try Mango Salad in a Thai Restaurant. The Mango is so fresh and topped with prawn and roast cashew nuts. For the mains, the waiter recommends Crispy Garoupa with Trio Spice Sauce/IDR 190.000. This is spot on because the fish is so crispy and are shaped like a flying fish. We love it! We paired it with Green Chicken Curry/IDR 90.000 that is served in a clay pot. This brings us back to Thailand, and we just love the flavours. FOr the veggies, we love the stir fried Broccoli Tofu with chili and garlic sauce. Simply put, this is one lunch we won’t forget.

If you want to visit TAO Bali, the place is open from 10:30 AM – 10:30 PM. If you are staying in Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa, TAO offers free transportation for a minimum of 2 persons (Please call 2 hours in advance). See you at TAO Bali!
