Review: Tiigo Restaurant at Montigo Resorts Seminyak

Which restaurant is led by a senior Indonesian chef, opens 24 hours, and comes with a pool that can be used for all guest? Located right in the heart of Seminyak, Tiigo Restaurant is a must-visit dining hub that offers so many surprises. We visited Tiigo Restaurant, and here’s the scoop…

Bali is a land of culinary adventures. There are so many restaurants, cafes, and warung that offers lots of delicious food. But after living here for a while, we’re kind of at the stage of “been there, done that”. So it’s a refreshing feeling when we went to Tiigo Restaurant and be surprised by many things. They are one of the new players in the Seminyak District, but we are so impressed with the experience that we can say that they are one of the best ones in Seminyak.

Tiigo Restaurant is part of Montigo Resorts Seminyak. However, it is located right by the street side, so everybody can have easy access to the restaurant and its facilities. The restaurant is divided into three areas: the open bar, the indoor restaurant, and the outdoor pool bar. We really love the design of the place. They have a lot of greeneries, combined with the signature Montigo eclectic blue. Over on the walls and windows are big prints of fishes and food, giving it a contemporary look that blends beautifully with the touch of Bali here and there.

The staffs are very friendly. They would just come and talk to you, about the food, the restaurants or even Bali in general. They really want to make sure that you’re having a great time. And why wouldn’t you? The foods are great, the drinks are strong and the pool is heavenly, especially on a hot day in Bali.

Tiigo Restaurant is led by Chef Alit Subawa, who has been working as a chef for more than 30 years. This is our first surprise because it’s not every day that you met a chef of his caliber. He’s not young and shiny like the chefs these days. He is grounded, humble and he listens to the customer… like, what can he cook to make your day even better. This explains the big menu that Tiigo Restaurant offers. From Western food, the Asian delicacy, Spanish, to European dishes… they have it all.

However, if you ask the Chef, his favorite food to cook are the Balinese Trio. This is the crowds’ favorite too. It consists of three famous Balinese dishes: Ayam Betutu, Bebek Goreng and Babi Guling, the classics that you must try while in the island of the gods. Chef Alit’s Balinese heritage ensures that we are getting the real deal or the authentic version of the meal. If you love it spicy, just tell the waitress when you place your order and Chef Alit will make his version of it. The fried duck is seasoned perfectly and their meat just fell off the bones. Their babi guling or sucking pig just screams Bali food with its bumbu genep, and its tender meat and the lawar that comes with the food. We didn’t get to try the chicken betutu. However, Chef Alit made us a platter filled with appetizers, from Satay, otak-otak, and martabak. They are the little bits of happiness.
